Sutton Useful Information
Sutton is one of London’s major metropolitan centres. The name refers both to the London Borough and the large town based South West of the city. Since 1847 it has been connected to central London by rail, so transport link have been much easier ever since; there is no London Underground service this far out, but there are overground trains to London Bridge, Victoria and Wimbledon. There are also regular buses that go into the city and to surrounding areas. If you prefer to travel privately, book a Sutton taxi and complete your journey in comfort.
This suburban town is a great place to live if you want to avoid the high stress and high prices that come with central London. A lot of residents here commute into the city for work every day to take advantage of the plentiful job opportunities; some take Sutton cabs (paid for by the company, if they’re lucky!) and others drive themselves. If you’re going by train, it will only take you 30 - 45 minutes. That’s about the same time it takes to travel across central London by bus, tube or car so it’s quite an easy commute! There are still all the amenities you’d expect from a town in Sutton; a high street with varied retail stores, banks, a post office, a large Asda supermarket and a Police Station. There is also a sports arena where channel 4’s programme ‘The Games’ was filmed.
There are some historical attractions in Sutton that attract tourists and people from surrounding areas; the timber framed 16th century Whitehall is located in Cheam Village conservation area, complete with a gift shop and a tearoom. There’s a heritage centre in the park taking visitors through the local history, and if you’re a fan of the great outdoors, you might enjoy the Sutton Countryside Walk. There are plenty of places to relax, kick back and enjoy the peaceful scenery here.
There are several bars, restaurants and nightclubs to choose from; if you’re going for a night out in the area, Sutton minicabs will be able to take you wherever you want to go. There are hotels available if you’re looking for accommodation, offering very reasonable rates. You may also wish to visit the neighbouring Boroughs of Croydon and Merton; Sutton taxis will be familiar with the area, so there’s no need to worry about getting lost when you’re exploring new pastures!
